Pastors Edwin and Marisel Mieses moved to the city of Hazleton, PA on August 22, 1998. They were commissioned as missionaries of the EVANGELICAL CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH to begin a Spanish speaking church. The Division Missions of the Evangelical Congregational Church and "Zion" Evangelical Congregational Church saw the need to begin a Latino church in the city of Hazleton. Zion E.C. Church opened its doors so that the Latino work could begin in Hazleton. The Mieses were in agreement with the Division of Missions of the E.C. Church to receive partial support. Thus, the work began for the kingdom of God.

This Ministry began with a family Bible Study on Wednesdays, October 1998. In Addition, the Mieses began making contact with the Hispanic community through flyers, personal visits and the use of their talents in order to help those in need. After some weeks they met a family from the country of Honduras, which attended the Bible studies, until they moved to the state of Florida, in January 1999. In February of the same year, as result of their contacts they met a new family, Josefina and her son Cesar Covarrubias from Mexico and they began to attend the Bible studies. They had a desire to congregate in a Spanish speaking church. Thus, this ministry was an answer to their prayers. Later, in the month of March, the pastors Mieses met the Miranda family that had moved from the State of New York to the Hazleton area answering the call of God on their lives. These two families, the Mieses and Miranda s united to continue the work and to carryout the will of the Lord Jesus Christ our God.

In March 1999, we began prayer service in "Zion" E. C. Church, but saw the need to bring it to the homes. On April 4, 1999, we began Sunday services at 1:30 in the afternoon. On June, the Church was incorporated and became part of the Latino Conference of the Evangelical Congregational Church.

Our official name is "BUENAS NUEVAS" Evangelical Congregational Church. As a result of the hand of God in this ministry, our Church has grown. The Lord has brought peoples from different places and nationalities with diverse talents to build-up the kingdom of God.
